PRESIDENT AND CEO
Sachin H. Jain, MD, MBA is chief executive officer (CEO) of CareMore Health System. He is also consulting professor of medicine at the Stanford University School of Medicine and a contributor at Forbes. Dr. Jain was previously CareMore’s chief medical officer (CMO) and chief operating officer (COO).
Prior to joining CareMore, Dr. Jain was Chief Medical Information & Innovation Officer at Merck & Co. He also served as an attending physician at the Boston VA-Boston Medical Center and a member of faculties at Harvard Medical School and Harvard Business School. From 2009-2011, Dr. Jain worked in the Obama Administration, where he was senior advisor to Donald Berwick when he led the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Dr. Jain was the first deputy director for policy and programs at the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI). He also served as special assistant to David Blumenthal when he was the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology.
Dr. Jain graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College with a BA in government and continued on to earn his MD from Harvard Medical School and MBA from Harvard Business School. He trained in medicine at the Brigham and Women’s Medicine, earned his board certification from the ABIM, and continues to practice medicine at CareMore. He is co-founder and co-editor-in-chief of the Elsevier journal Healthcare: The Journal of Delivery Science & Innovation and is an elected member of the National Academy of Social Insurance (NASI). He has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles and in journals such as the New England Journal, JAMA, Health Affairs, and the Harvard Business Review blogs and was an editor of the book, The Soul of a Doctor (Algonquin Press).
Dr. Jain is a native of Bergen County, New Jersey, but presently resides in Los Angeles.
CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
Karen Sugano leads physician engagement strategies and delivery operations that support the national expansion of the CareMore Brand. She develops and implements workforce plans for consistent delivery of operational performances. Ms. Sugano oversees business operations across all CareMore markets to accommodate the rapid growth and objectives of the organization.
Ms. Sugano served as corporate vice president and general manager of SCAN Health Plan for Northern California prior to coming to CareMore. She also acted as vice president of network development at Buenaventura Medical Group in Ventura, Calif., and was vice president of managed care for SeaView IPA in Oxnard, Calif. Ms. Sugano received her Master of Health Administration from the University of Southern California and her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of California, Los Angeles.
CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER
Michael Plumb has been with CareMore since 2010 and has over 20 years of experience in the healthcare industry. In his role, Mr. Plumb is responsible for all corporate finance and accounting activities and operations nationally. Additional accountabilities include CareMore products and services, along with leadership of the actuarial and underwriting operations for the organization. Prior to joining CareMore, Mr. Plumb held various executive and consulting positions at healthcare organizations like United Healthcare, PacifiCare, and Kaiser Health Plan. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of California at San Diego and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley.
CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER
Zubin Eapen, MD, MHS
Dr. Zubin Eapen is CareMore's system-wide chief medical officer (CMO) and leads the organization's care delivery, clinical strategy, and clinical innovation. As CMO, Dr. Eapen will drive the continued evolution of the CareMore model to serve complex, high-cost, and high-need patients.
Prior to coming to CareMore, Dr. Eapen served as Associate Professor of Medicine of the Division of Cardiology and Medical Director of the Same-Day Access Heart Failure Clinic at Duke University where he led efforts to reduce admissions and readmissions among high-risk heart failure patients. He also served as the Department of Medicine's Director of Clinical Improvement. Dr. Eapen received his undergraduate degree as a Morehead Scholar at the University of North Carolina; his medical degree (MD) from the Duke University School of Medicine; and underwent his internal medicine and cardiology training at Duke University Medical Center.
Dr. Eapen is a member of the American Heart Journal editorial board and was the electronic media editor for the Journal of the American College of Cardiology: Heart Failure. He is the author of numerous medical publications and the editor of the 14th edition of Hurst’s The Heart.
CHIEF QUALITY OFFICER
David Ramirez, MD
David Ramirez, MD is the Chief Quality Officer at CareMore Health System. In his role, he has responsibility over the Utilization Management, Pharmacy, Quality Management, and Case Management departments. He has also been a Vice President of Clinical Services with operational oversight of CareMore’s Care Centers as well as its innovative Disease Management Programs. Dr. Ramirez has led implementation of new pilot programs for advanced cancer, remote monitoring, and medication adherence.
Dr. Ramirez has experience as a private practice hospitalist, attending faculty hospitalist, and hospitalist program director. He received his medical degree at Harvard Medical School and completed his residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He is board certified in Internal Medicine.
Before joining CareMore, Dr. Ramirez was Medical Director of Ambulatory Care and Associate Chief Medical Officer at University Medical Center Brackenridge, a teaching hospital that is part of the Seton Healthcare Family.
VICE PRESIDENT, STRATEGIC INITIATIVES
Stephen Lineberry joined CareMore in November 2014 and leads strategic planning, crossfunctional execution, internal communications, and serves as Chief of Staff to the President and CEO of CareMore. Prior to CareMore, Mr. Lineberry was a Director in the corporate strategy office at Anthem, Inc., where he focused on innovation, business development, diversification efforts, and payer/provider strategy. Prior to Anthem, Mr. Lineberry served at the U.S. Department of Treasury, U.S. Department of State, and the White House, serving as the President’s liaison to the healthcare, senior citizen, and disability communities. Mr. Lineberry earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee.
CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER, NEW MARKETS & BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
Vivek Garg, MD, MBA
Vivek Garg, MD, MBA, is chief medical officer, new markets & business development at CareMore Health System and a practicing internist. Dr. Garg leads clinical strategy and operations for CareMore’s expansion markets including managed Medicaid and health system partnerships.
Previously, Dr. Garg was the director of medical operations & medical director at Oscar Insurance. He was also clinical assistant professor of medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College. Prior to Oscar, Dr. Garg was medical director at One Medical Group, a primary care system, where he led initiatives in quality, population health, and telemedicine. His prior work experience spans the public, private, and non-profit sectors, including positions with McKinsey & Company and the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission, a leading Congressional advisory body on payment innovation in Medicare.
He trained in internal medicine at Brigham & Women’s Hospital, where he practiced primary care at Faulkner Hospital and was a clinical fellow at Harvard Medical School. He received his MD and MBA from Harvard Medical School and Harvard Business School, respectively, and graduated summa cum laude from Yale University.
